As part of a recent training event, Topcon Positioning Systems sponsored a Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley Playhouse Build. Over 160 participants — representing 42 Topcon dealers from all over the world — split into groups to build 16 playhouses to donate to local families.
The exclusive training event took place at the John D. Dice Training Center, a facility within Topcon’s global headquarters for its construction, geospatial and agriculture business. Attendees spent several days learning about the latest in advanced construction technology, and at the end of the training, they all got the chance to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley’s Playhouse Program is a unique endeavor that offers a win-win-win proposition for the community. Sponsor organizations build more than playhouses with their volunteers — they build new skills, new connections, and a deep sense of shared purpose and community engagement.
“Organizations like Topcon come and sponsor build events like this, and through that sponsorship, they're supporting Habitat for Humanity's work in the community,” said Patti Wang Cross, communications manager, Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley. “It also means that groups like this get a chance to get to know each other, build something together, get a little messy, get creative, and have a great time outside of work. And at the end of the day, we donate these adorable custom playhouses to wonderful families and organizations in the community.
The Playhouse Program has grown from building 20 playhouses in 2009, to a major operation that has donated over 500 playhouses and raised over a million dollars in a single year – critical funding that expands access to affordable homeownership in one of the country’s most expensive housing markets.
