3D-MC Edge FAQ
3D-MC Edge is a 3D machine control system built specifically for rough grading and bulk earthmoving. It brings real-time grade accuracy to the machines that move 70–80% of the material on a job, including dozers, scrapers and loaders, where most work still relies on stakes and manual checks.
3D-MC Edge is built for the machines doing the heavy lifting in rough grading: dozers, wheel tractor-scrapers, tow-behind scrapers, push dozers, soil compactors and motor graders. It is a flexible system, so it can be used across multiple machines in your fleet rather than buying separate systems for each one.
3D-MC Edge gives you real-time grade awareness without relying on stakes or manual checks. Instead of guessing at grade or waiting for a surveyor to catch an error, you get continuous feedback so you can hit your target in fewer passes.
Getting rough grade wrong compounds into bigger problems downstream:
- Grade left too high creates more work for finish grading machines, burning more fuel and adding time
- Grade cut too low destabilizes the sub-base, forcing you to import material or run repeated compaction cycles
3D-MC Edge catches those errors before they cost you.
Setup is fast and calibration is done in the field, without specialized tools or additional personnel. The system is built around minimal sensors and a straightforward workflow: install it, calibrate it on-site and get to work. You do not need a dedicated technician or a survey crew to get up and running.
3D-MC Edge replaces the need for constant staking and manual grade checks, which typically require additional crew time. With real-time grade data available directly in the cab, the operator has the information they need to stay on target. One person can run the machine and monitor grade simultaneously, without waiting on someone else to verify the work. Put your crew where they need to be.
Yes. 3D-MC Edge has been verified on slopes up to 20%, covering a broad range of applications such as rough grading, bulk earthmoving, sod farming, landscaping, sports field, levee construction.
3D-MC Edge uses an Android tablet interface. Depending on your setup, you can choose between a wired configuration using the GX-90 display or a wireless configuration using the GX-10W display. The User Interface is focused on the blade and designed to give the operator a clear, simplified view of what matters most during earthmoving.
3D-MC Edge works with GNSS (satellite-based positioning), LPS (Local Positioning Systems using a robotic total station) and both 2D laser-based and 3D workflows. This makes it usable across a wide range of site conditions, including areas where satellite coverage is limited or obstructed.
3D-MC Edge is purpose-built for bulk earthmoving (but can do the finish work too). Full 3D systems are built around the full machine, not just the blade. They provide fine grading capabilities, where tight tolerances matter in the final 20–30% of the job. 3D-MC Edge focuses on the first 80%: getting bulk earthmoving right from the start so your finish grading machines have less work to do and fewer mistakes to correct. It is simpler to install, easier to use and more affordable than a full-featured 3D system, without sacrificing the real-time grade awareness you need.
Yes. 3D-MC Edge is designed with first-time machine control users in mind. The interface is intuitive, setup does not require specialized expertise and the system is built to get you productive quickly. If you can use a tape measure and a carpenter level, you can get to work. If you have been running on stakes and operator experience alone, this is a practical, low-risk way to step into 3D machine control without the complexity or cost of a full system.
Yes. You choose the machine. 3D-MC Edge adapts to it, not the other way around. One system, multiple machines, no compromises.
