Yesterday at Bauma, we welcomed racing driver James Roe to the Topcon stand, where we’re showcasing the latest in road building and paving technology. With the racing car already a firm favorite among visitors this week, it’s great to now have its driver join us for a few days. And who better to explain the importance of accuracy in road construction than a driver whose high speeds really put the road surface to the test?
Highlighting the role of machine control and digital solutions in improving accuracy, efficiency, and profitability in road construction, the Topcon experts are showcasing a number of software and hardware solutions designed to provide premium paving results that are suitable for demanding projects like racetracks.
Delivering speed, smoothness, and efficiency, SmoothRide is the world’s most advanced resurfacing solution. By providing on-site teams with the most accurate information, the workflow offers significant benefits for both precision and speed. On display at Bauma, the RD-M1 scanner makes it easy to collect detailed road surface data. This innovative device can also be attached to a vehicle and driven along the road whilst traffic is still flowing, removing the need for lane closures, and allowing data to safely be collected from inside the cab. With the ability to scan at up to 100x per second, RD-M1 drastically reduces the time it takes to complete a resurfacing project and delays.
For all applications, advanced paving technology plays a crucial role in developing the smoothest possible surface. In fact, Topcon paving workflows have been used to resurface some of the most prestigious circuits in the world, including Silverstone in the UK, Circuit Zolder in Belgium, and Le Castellet in France.
Talking about the importance of a smooth racetrack, James Roe said “When competing at such high speeds, it’s vital that professional drivers know that the racetrack surface is safe and smooth. High-quality resurfacing projects that use precise scanning technology, make a notable difference to the speed at which you can complete a circuit and the minimum downtime needed for resurfacing allows us more time to practice on the track.
