Hi Colin! Can we start with a little about your journey in the industry and how you arrived at Topcon?
I joined the survey industry roughly 30 years ago. I’ve had various roles, but I’ve mainly stayed in sales – as branch manager, sales manager, etc. I’m approaching my one-year anniversary at Topcon, and I’ve already developed lots of positive relationships with colleagues and clients.
What does working for Topcon mean to you?
It’s about getting the job done, showing respect and integrity to everyone that you work with, and enjoying what you do. Topcon builds interactive relationships with customers, working together to solve problems which are stopping people from getting the job done.
I’m very proud to work for Topcon. There’s a real sense that you’re valued as a member of the team and that your contribution is recognised.
How has your experience helped you build relationships that go above and beyond?
The most important thing I’ve learnt over the years is people deal with people that they trust and respect. Being honest and showing that degree of integrity will get you further than anything else. If you can reach a point where you’re both pulling in the same direction and working towards the same solution, you’ll be a long way towards a productive relationship.
On a day-to-day basis, keeping in touch is how you maintain these relationships – getting back to people on time and with an answer to their question. It’s really important that people know they’ve been heard and that you’re working on it.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
My family is a huge part of my life – looking after my wife and kids and making sure everyone is happy and well is the main priority.
Any hobbies?
I like walking and listening to my favourite podcasts or playlists. It helps me clear my mind, reflect and plan my working day.
