3D-MC: Basic Training - File Menu (Overview)

Introduction

The following information will cover the available options under the File tab when using your Topcon 3D system.  This information was created for software version 12.0.5.37 3D-MC and 12.0.7.15 3DMC Max.  Before beginning work, you must have job files that contain various information needed to accurately grade the jobsite, which includes project files, point files, design surfaces, and machine configuration files.

 

Projects

  • ​Within the Projects option the operator can store multiple projects allowing for easy access when moving from one project to another.

 

Projects

  • All of the site information, line work, Points and Surfaces are stored within each individual project.
  • Multiple site projects can be stored within the control box for easy access when moving from one job sit to another.
  • The Project engineer must provide the design surface file for the job site.

  • Control points are required in 3DMC and are usually imported into 3DMC with a project file.
  • Localized control points are necessary for 3DMC.

Within the Control option the operator can view a list of control points within the active project.

 

Layers

Layers

  • The Project Layers option will display a list of all the  available Layers within the active Project.
  • All your Points and Line Work are stored within the Layers.
  • Think of Layers tab as a file cabinet and each of the projects layers as a folder within the file cabinet.
  • You can choose to display the points or line work within a layer making it viewable on the screen by selecting show.

  • The Points option will display all the Points with in the active project.

  • In order to be able to see the points you must have the layer the points are stored in selected as show from the Layers option.

 

Surface

  • The Surfaces option is where the operator can chose which surface will be displayed or visible on the screen.

 

Surfaces

  • All Surfaces that are selected to be shown will then be available to select as an active grading surface.
  • This helps to simplify things for the operator by only displaying the surfaces that the operator will be working on that day of week.
  • From the Surfaces Option an operator can create a new surface as well as change the color of an existing surface.

 

Active

  • The Active option allows the operator to select which of the available surfaces will be the Active grading surface.
  • The surfaces that were chosen to be shown under the Surfaces option will be the only available surfaces to chose from.

Exit 3DMC

  • The Exit 3DMC option will turn off 3DMC returning the control box to the main windows screen.  It is not necessary to exit 3DMC when shutting of the control box.
