MAGNET Office: Different forms of Linework

  • There are three different types of linework that may be in your MAGNET Office project
    • Strings
    • Lines
    • Polylines

String

  • Defined by several points, joined by lines and/or arcs to become one entity. The string may be a 3D object, if all points that define it have elevation values.
    • When creating a model, strings add a quicker way to go through the project and edit multiple entities as one.
    • Best used as a face of curb, gutter, back of curb, etc.
  • Recognizing strings – the line will show multiple points could include arcs. There will be no midpoints within the segments

Line

  • Connection between two points, and defined by a start point and an end point. The bearing and distance of the line are defined by the start and end points positions.
  • Recognizing Lines – to identify a line there will be a start, end, and midpoint once selected. Will also only be a single segment.

Polyline

  • Defined by several lines, joined to become one entity. Note that polyline does not have start, end, or node points as independent entities.
    • Will hold one elevation
    • Best used as contour lines
  • Recognizing polylines – when selected, the line will show as one entity.
