FC-6000: UFI 41.4, EC 1.21 installation error

Error details

An error may be encountered for FC-6000 controllers with UEFI BIOS 1.40 / EC 1.21 installed.

There is a possibility that the unit will fail to complete the update.

If this occurs, a message will be displayed, and the unit will become inoperable.

New units shipped with this version are limited to the serial number range of 306157–308587. Any units that may have been updated to this version may also encounter the error.

Resolving the error

  • If the error occurs, remove the battery to drain the system before attempting again. If you have the optional internal battery, leave the unit running overnight to drain the internal battery before attempting to update again.
  • Attach a stable external power source (such as the 30 W wall charger that was provided with the unit).
  • Download and copy the M3Updater_UEFI_144_EC_124.exe file (at end of this article) to the FC-6000 Windows unit.
  • Remove any external storage device (USB media) that you may have attached to the FC-6000 or dock.
  • Save and close any open files and running programs. Backup any critical data from the FC-6000 before proceeding as a precaution.
  • Run the M3Updater_UEFI_144_EC_124.exe file on the FC-6000. When a black terminal (command prompt) window appears, you may need to press the Return keypad button or an on-screen keyboard button to continue.
  • Wait while the app starts the update process which might involve multiple restarts (or reboots). After each restart, the update app will be automatically launched.
  • Note: If you have a pin or password set up, you may need to enter it after each restart and wait 10-15 seconds to continue.
  • It should take up to 20 minutes to update the firmware from an earlier version. When the app stops performing updates, follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Verify that the firmware has been updated successfully by tapping on the Windows (Start) button > Device Info to check that the BIOS Version (UEFI) is now 1.44 as well as the Embedded Controller (EC) version is now 1.24 in that window.
