Information on the LCD

The indicator on the upper left corner has two functions:

  • Antenna symbol followed by Received Signal Strength  (RSSI) in dBm units. RSSI will be shown for about 7  seconds after the last message has been received.
  • “n” symbol followed by the noise level whenever RSSI is not shown i.e. there are no messages from any other compatible radio modem detected.

The two lines in the middle revolve automatically every 5 seconds displaying the basic settings, as illustrated

Menu Buttons

There are two options to proceed from the top level view:

  1. Press INFO button to view the info pages 
  2. Press SETUP button to modify the settings

How to modify the settings on LCD

  • After pressing SETUP button (¡) on the top level view, the list of settings sub-menus  appears.
  • The cursor (>) indicates the active line or the current value of the setting.
  • Pressing DOWN (▼) button the cursor moves downwards. Depending on the sub-  menu, the button also scrolls the digits of numerical values when changing some  settings.
  • Pressing UP (▲) button the cursor moves upwards. Depending on the sub-menu, the  button also scrolls the digits of numerical values when changing some settings.
  • Pressing SELECT/SET/CHANGE/NEXT/YES (¡) button either confirms a selection, sets or  changes a value, moves to the next digit or enters a sub-menu depending on the  context.
  • Pressing EXIT/CANCEL/BACK/NO button escapes back to the previous higher level in  the menu hierarchy or cancels the modification of a setting depending on the  particular submenu.

Changing the Frequency

  • Enter the settings menu first by pressing SETUP button (¡) on the top level view
  • Press ▲ or ▼ until the cursor > points to “Radio frequency” selection and press ”SELECT” to move to the next submenu
  • Press ▲ or ▼ until the cursor > points to your selection:
  • TX & RX freq (in case both TX frequency and RX frequency are to be changed at the same time)
  • The limits of the Frequency Band 1 will be shown for informative purposes.  Likewise the limits of Frequency Band 2 will be shown by pressing ▼.
  • Press “SET” to activate the window for entering the frequency.
  • Increase or decrease the value of each digit by pressing ▲ or ▼. Move to the next digit by pressing NEXT.
  • Repeat the procedure until the frequency is fully set.
  • Acknowledgement or error message (in case of an invalid value) appears.  Get back to the top level by pressing BACK. On the top level press EXIT.

 

If you want to save the settings as they are now, press YES.  If you are not sure or want to cancel the changes, press NO

Compatability

The SATELLINE-EASy modem provides the following radio compatibility options:

  • SATELLINE-3AS - Original SATELLINE-3AS data transfer mode (Default)
  • PacCrest-4FSK - Transparent mode/FEC ON/Scrambling ON (Option 1)
  • PacCrest-GMSK - Transparent mode/FEC ON/Scrambling ON (Option 2)
  • TrimTalk450s(P) - Trimtalk450s GMSK Rx fitted to PacCrest transmitters (Option 3)
  • TrimTalk450s(T) - Trimtalk450s GMSK Rx fitted to Trimble transmitters (Option 4)
  • PacCrest-FST (Option 5)

Setting the compatibility

  1. Enter the settings menu first by pressing SETUP button (¡) on the top level view.
  2. Press ▲ or ▼ until the cursor > points to “Radio Settings” selection and press ”SELECT” to move to the next submenu.
  3. Press ▼ until the cursor > points to Compatibility
  4. Select the compatibility required by pressing ▲ or ▼ and press ¡
  5. Get back to the top level by pressing BACK. On the top level press EXIT.
  6. If you want to save the settings as they are now, press YES.
  7. If you are not sure or want to cancel the changes, press NO.

Additional settings required for Topcon 3D-MC

Channel spacing – check local regulatory requirements for channel spacing

  1. Enter the settings menu first by pressing SETUP button (¡) on the top level view.
  2. Press ▲ or ▼ until the cursor > points to “Radio Frequency” selection and press ”SELECT” to move to the next submenu.
  3. Press ▼ until the cursor > points to Channel spacing
  4. Change to 25Hz (in this example). Check local regulatory requirements for channel spacing
  5. Get back to the top level by pressing BACK. On the top level press EXIT.
  6. If you want to save the settings as they are now, press YES.
  7. If you are not sure or want to cancel the changes, press NO.

Baud Rate – this should match the settings in 3D-MC (usually 38400)

  1. Enter the settings menu first by pressing SETUP button (¡) on the top level view.
  2. Press ▲ or ▼ until the cursor > points to “Port 1” selection and press ”SELECT” to move to the next submenu.
  3. Press ▼ until the cursor > points to baud rate value (9600 is default)
  4. Change to 38400
  5. Get back to the top level by pressing BACK. On the top level press EXIT.
  6. If you want to save the settings as they are now, press YES.
  7. If you are not sure or want to cancel the changes, press NO.

Settings in Topcon 3D-MC

  • In Topcon 3DMC using a Satel radio go to TOOLS – Configure Radios
  • Radio type should be set to Satel 3AS  Serial Port C
  • Baud rate 38400 to match Satel settings
  • Format – dependant on base station output, i.e. RTCM 3.x (recommended) or CMR+
