Plan View

For Versions 3D-MC 12.05.37 and 3Dmax 12.07.15

  • The plan view provides the operator with an aerial view of the project.  Touching different locations on the screen provides the operator with simple shortcuts or advanced options.

Plan View Short Cuts

  • In the plan view,  three hot spots on the equipment image are available. Touching one of the spots identified on the screen makes additional short cut menus available. The only noticeable difference in the three menus is the ability to move the steering point.  This can be beneficial when using the steering feature.
  • While in the plan view, if the operator touches an area on the screen anywhere outside the machine’s image, they will bring up the menu shown here.  Touching an area outside of the machine image causes the “Move Steer Point” option to be unavailable.

Direction of travel

Direction of travel determines how the machine image is displayed on the screen.

  • Always up-screen orients the image traveling up the screen and the jobsite rotates around the image.
  • Always down-screen orients the image pointing down screen.
  • Up-screen 45 degrees or 90 degrees is commonly used for excavators.  When the excavator rotates, the machine rotates on the screen rather than having the job site rotate. After the machine exceeds the set rotation, the job site rotates—orienting the machine back up screen.
  • The fixed orientation option allows the operator to select a fixed job site rotation on the screen.  When the fixed orientation is selected, the machine moves around on the screen, leaving the job site fixed to the selected rotation.

Polyline

If the operator touches an area outside the image, and then touches line work or a Polyline, this option becomes available.

  • Steer to option turns the selected line into a polyline, creating an alignment from the line for steering. The line will turn white. This alignment will be placed in the surface folder.
  • Steer to offset allows the operator to define a parallel line towards which to steer.
  • Extend grade creates a surface that extends 15’ to the left and 15’ to the right of the line. The operator can define the slope of the line.
  • Generate points option places points along the polyline.

Isolate surface

  • Maximum grade transition: Defines the area where the new surface creation stops. The software builds the new surface until it comes to a defined transition. (used on TIN surfaces)
  • Extend grade a edge by: How large the new surface will be.
  • Limit isolated area to within: Used when working with alignments/road projects to define limits. Similar to Maximum grade transition with TINs.
  • Surface color: Changes the original surface to the defined color.
  • Extension color: Creates the new surface in the selected color.

Display text

The display text option allows the operator to display additional text information on the screen.

  • The text information can be placed on the Left/Center/Right side of the screen depending on where the screen is touched.

Machine image

  • The machine image option allows the operator to either display the machine on the screen in a transparent mode, or display a cross-hair on the blade.  The location of the cross-hair is determined by the steering point location.

Set points

The Set points option: Allows the operator to toggle “on or off” a group of set point arrows for either the left or right side of the machine. 

  • The Increment option: Sets the amount of elevation or grade change whenever an arrow is touched. 
    • While in 3D mode, the set point is not active for the slope control unless the slope is locked. The increment option also sets the amount of grade change when the elevation buttons on the Motor grader smart knobs are used.

Section View

The section view provides the operator with a cross section view of the project.  Touching different locations on the screen provides the operator with simple shortcuts or advanced options.

 

  • While in the section view, the job site cross section is viewable by the operator at his current location.  The cross section view can assist operators when steering to job site features. 
  • The Red triangle visible in the center of the blade indicates single point control has been selected.
  • The operator can opt to move the point of control by touching different locations on the blade.

Profile View

Profile view: Provides the operator with a profile view of the project.  This is helpful when using the excavator and pulling slopes.

  • Touching different locations on the screen provides the operator with simple shortcuts or advanced options.
  • When using an excavator, touching the screen provides the operator with a simple shortcut to adjust how the machine is displayed on the screen.
  • Focus body option: Allows operator to position the body of the machine in the center of the screen.
  • Focus Attachment: positions the bucket in the center of the screen.
  • Show reversed: Displays the machine moving the bucket 1800 to the left side of the screen.

3D view

  • 3D view: primarily used to identify problem areas on a model. 
    • If the machine is performing erratically in a specific location, the operator can run that section while viewing the machine in the 3D view.
    •  If a problem exists with the model, the operator can view a grade break or spike on the screen identifying the problem.
  • 3D view: not available with all control boxes.
    • Currently the 3D view is only available with the    GX-60.
  • Enable 3D option: only available when using a  GX-60 control box.  By deselecting the Enable 3D option, the 3D view will not be available when using the short cut buttons
