MAGNET Project: How to balance haul calculations [VIDEO]

Optimal haul planning

When planning a project and importing bill of quantity documents into MAGNET Project, the defined attributes between quantities and resources may vary where a calculation will display as unbalanced.

When percentage results of calculated transfers are not even, in the project viewer, quantity pillars are displayed as solid color and rasterized color.

  • Solid colored pillars are hauls that have been calculated.
  • Rasterized colored pillars are unhauled masses (e.g., surplus or deficit masses) that need to be considered in order to get fully balanced and optimal hauls between quantities and locations.

View haul details by hovering over the quantity pillar. Alternatively, access the Properties window by double-clicking the quantity pillar or name on the left in the Project Explorer bar.

In the Properties, Quantities, Hauls, and Label tabs, it is possible to check the quantity item attributes, take note of any deviances in values, and make adjustments accordingly. For example, good observations could be:

  • Source or destination quantity type
    • Open the Suitabilities tab, and add a suitable quantity type for a particular haul.
  • Review and modify the quantity type capacities in the project.

Calculate hauls between adjustments to view the haul transfer results.

Other settings are good to review or notice if cuts don't match with fills:

  •     Matching production rates between cuts and fills
  •     Simultaneous timing between cut and fill
  •     Need for stockpiles, disposal areas, or borrow pits to perform cuts or fills later or transferring material to storage
