MAGNET Modeler: How to set up a surface model rule

Surfaces are called DTMs (digital terrain model) in MAGNET Office software.

MAGNET Modeler provides a rule for surfaces called surface models. This rule is able to access one or even several DTMs within Office, assign a material or texture for visualization purposes to it, and create a virtual model (VM) out of it.

The surface model rule is used to translate native MAGNET Office DTMs into a virtual surface model.

 

Surface model rule parameters

•  Layer

Click layer to access a list of all available DTMs in your current MAGNET Office project. Select a DTM from the list that the rule should be applied to. You can use the asterisk character (*) to select all available DTMs at once.

•  Material

Click material to access the Material Library of MAGNET Modeler. Select an existing material, or insert a new material.

•  Description

Click description, and enter a description for the surface model rule. This will change the name of the rule within the Modeler Rules window. In case you have several surface model rules, this helps to easily identify them.

•  Group

Click group to choose from a list of existing groups/subgroups, or manually enter your group structure. Use the forward slash character (/) to create additional subgroups, for example, Existing/Terrain/Parking lot.

•  Cut_mode

  • No = Surfaces are generated as normal surfaces. The surface model will not interact with any other surface models.
  • Yes = Surfaces will be cut into surfaces generated before this surface. A hole as large as the surface will be created, and this new surface will be added to this hole. If the surfaces differ, there might appear to be holes between the surfaces. Surfaces are not altered in any way.
  • Weld = In addition to yes mode, the surface edges are connected together so that there are no holes between the surfaces. In other words, the surface model's overlapping area will be merged with any other surface models.
