MAGNET Live: Location awareness

MAGNET Live offers a location awareness function which significantly improves the visibility of construction projects by providing users the ability to see their actual location and movement within a 3D model. While human error is the common problem leading to reworks and delays during design and construction phases, this function allows project participants, such as design consultants and civil engineers, to collaborate and to oversee project works in a real-time manner. As a result, additional costs and waste created by late discovery of errors are minimized. The key contributions of MAGNET Live location awareness to the success of construction projects are as follows:

  • It can relieve the burden of measuring and checking details.
  • It discovers the misalignments between design and construction works.
  • It facilitates the subsequent works carried out by contractors by enabling design verification.
  • It can ease the project quality management processes.
  • It helps contractors overcome the challenges of project time pressures and resource limitation.

Model calibration

To enable location awareness, the admin or model owner needs to first calibrate the model. The model calibration process can be completed in five steps:

  1. Disable device GPS location.
  2. Turn on calibration mode by clicking on the marker icon on the right-hand side.
  1. Click and locate two calibration points.

  1. Enter longitude and latitude to the points within the model view. The input is expected to be in WGS84, EPSG:4326 format.
  2. Click Save.

Note: If you want to apply changes to calibration, it can only be possible after Save is clicked.

General usage of location awareness

First, you need to allow your location by granting the browser the right to access your device location. This message will be in your browser language. Accept it for location awareness to be enabled.

User location can be toggled on and off by clicking the crosshair icon on the right side. This only works if the model has been successfully calibrated.

While the location awareness is active, you will see a blue point displaying your location on the model. A light blue circle displayed around the location indicates the error margin of the location. The device will let the system know how accurate the fetched GPS signal is.

In case the location is found but it is outside the view area, you will see a blue arrow that points to the user location. Move the model toward the arrow to see the displayed location.

In case the GPS location is far away from the model's original location, the location won't be displayed. A note will pop up and notify the distance between your actual location and the model's original location.
