MAGNET Construct: Add a geoid model

This article explains how to add a geoid model with MAGNET Construct. A geoid is the physical reference surface of the Earth. Its shape reflects the distribution of mass inside the Earth. Geoid undulations are important for converting GPS-derived ellipsoidal height differences to orthometric height differences (elevations).

Coordinate system

To access the geoid menu, follow the steps:

  1. From the main menu, click Configure.
  2. Click Coordinate System.
  3. Select Geoid.

Download geoid model file

MAGNET Construct allows the user to select and download specific geoid models, thus saving storage space on the device. Typically, you will need just a few, if not just one, geoid model.

  1. Click the download icon.
  2. If the check box is enabled, MAGNET Construct will download ALL available geoid model files. To select a specific geoid, disable this check box, and click Geoids.
  3. Browse by continent/region and then by country. 

 

Select model to download

  1. Select the geoid(s) to be downloaded, and start the download.
  2. Confirm the download.
  3. Once the download of the geoid model is complete, a message will appear on the screen.

Select geoid to be applied on current job

To select a geoid model from your available files on the device:

  1. Click Geoid.
  2. From the list, select the geoid model.
  3. The geoid is now applied on the job.
