MAGNET Project: Stockpile usage in haul calculation

There are two types of stockpiles used in MAGNET Project: local stockpile and stockpile.

Local stockpile

Local stockpile involves loading, removing, storing, and spreading of material at the locations, for example, cut or fill. You can predetermine the number of days of material storage, for example, 15 days after a cut or before a fill. There is no hauling of materials in this case; only one haul from the source to the destination after a task is finished. It is worth noting that using local stockpile increases the duration of the task once you add the number of days the materials are kept before and after a task.

Create a local stockpile

  1. Click Task, and right-click to choose Modify to open the Task Properties. Another option is to open Gantt View and click on a fill or cut task.
  2. In Task Properties, add local stockpile before task and after task by entering the number of days you wish the materials to be kept before it is handled and after that task is done.

Stockpile

Stockpile is a location to store materials but at a separate location with the tasks. Similar to a local stockpile, materials are stored before hauling or processing. Materials need to be hauled from a source task to a stockpile, and later they are hauled to the destination for other tasks. For example, if there is a need for stockpiling between a cut and a fill, there are hauls from cut to stockpile, dump to stockpile, and after that load and haul from stockpile to fill.

With stockpile, there is one resource that the crew unloads materials from a haul resource for stockpiling (for example, from a dump truck). After that, for example next year, another dump truck arrives at the stockpile. The resource crew loads the material onto the truck for hauling. Therefore, you need to define resource types and different production rates for a task using stockpiles. It is important to check if the production rate was already defined for quantity type in Bill of quantities.

Create a stockpile

  1. Create a task for a stockpile named, for example, Stockpile soil, and set the task duration to cover the project duration.
  2. Right-click on Stockpile soil at Bill of Quantities to create a new quantity for the stockpile.
  3. Right-click on the Stockpile soil task to choose Modify.
  4. Click the Suitabilities tab to set up Suitabilities for hauls. For example, click the Hauls possible from box and then click Add. Select Cut as Quantity type for hauls before task, and click OK. Next, click the Add refined button. Select Cut as Quantity type for hauls after task, and click OK.

Mass haul calculation using stockpiles

  1. Go to the Project tab, and click Calculate Hauls.
  2. Select from the Bill of quantities drop-down list.
  3. Click the Use schedule box.
  4. Click Calculate.
