3D-MC: Multi-Transmitter mmGPS Configuration

Basics

When setting up the way 3D-MC switches between mmGPS transmitters, both the main and auxiliary receivers need to be set. Follow this guide to properly configure your system.

Setup Options

Receiver port:

  • All mmGPS setups communicate on serial port C

Receiver sensitivity:

  • Auto will adjust the receiver's sensitivity depending on the distance from the transmitter

Transmitter  selection:

  • By selecting 1-4 the system will not automatically switch even if the Tx signal is blocked  (used for manual switching between TX’s)  Any sets the system for automatic switching options under the Advanced button

Firmware version:

  • Displays the receiver's firmware (indicating that the receiver is communicating)

Advanced Settings - Height Compensation

Height Compensation:

  • These options define how the system will handle elevation errors when switching from one Transmitter to another
  • Off:
    • If there is an elevation difference between the two transmitters the operator will see a step in the grade.
  • Constant:
    • If there is an elevation difference detected then the difference will be compensated for and the transition will result in NO step. (Holds offset from first TX)
  • Disappearing
    • If there is an elevation difference detected then this difference will be compensated for and the transition will result in NO step.  But the further you move away from this point-of-transition the smaller this compensation offset gets.

Advanced Settings - Signal Loss Strategy

These options define how the system selects which Transmitter (TX) to switch to in the event the current Transmitter (TX)  signal is lost.

  • Best RMS (Perm):
    • With this option selected the system will only use the closest TX even if that TX becomes Blocked (will not switch)
    •  Looks at all TX’s in file to determine closest
  • Best Visible-PZS (Auto):
    • The system decides for itself which signal is best due to signal strength.
  • Best Visible-GPS (Arr)
    • The GPS receiver constantly checks all channels for signals and chooses the transmitter based on its best RMS estimate. If the signal is lost or after MIN HOLD TIME has elapsed then it will check again.

Advanced Settings - Search and Hold Times

Max Search Time (secs):

  • When the TX signal is lost the system will wait the set amount of seconds before switching.

Min Hold Time (secs):

  • Once the TX switches due to a blocked or lost signal it will look to switch back after the Min Hold Time has elapsed.
