Post Flight Checklist

  • Post-Flight Checklist
    • In addition to this guide, please refer to the Falcon 8 post-flight checklist for a full list of post operational items.  

 

Data Retrieval

    • With the mission completed, retrieve data from the camera payload and the UAV   
    • Remove the SD card from the Sony A7R camera containing the collected imagery.
    • Remove the USB flash drive from the back of the Falcon 8 UAV’s central unit or remove the micro SD card from the front of the central unit containing the flight log information.  

Flight Book

  • Flight Book
    • Within AscTec Navigator, the Flight book shows all flight logs from a chosen directory.  Each flight can be displayed on a map, additional information is shown in a list such as date, position, number of photo, and flight time.  
    • Accessing the Flight Book can be done via AscTec Navigator by selecting WINDOW → FLIGHT BOOK.
    • This will open a new tab at the top.   From here, flights can be imported into the AscTec Navigator database for further processing.

  • Insert the USB stick or the micro SD car from the back of the Falcon 8 into the PC / laptop containing the AscTec Navigator software.  
  • Open the flight book section by selecting WINDOW → FLIGHT BOOK
  • Navigate to the USB folder structure stick and select the ASCTEC folder
  • Select the desired log and click COPY TO DATABASE

Photo Tagger

  • Photo Tagger
    • Is the tool for adding geo-referenced information to the collected images within AscTec Navigator.
    • Two sets of data are needed to do that:
      • The Falcon 8 log of the desired flight
      • The images corresponding to the log
    • To open Photo Tagger, click on: WINDOWS → PHOTO TAGGER

  1. Opening Photo Tagger, will display a new window to a wizard that will aid in guiding through the steps.
  2. Select NEW PROJECT → NEXT
  3. A list of all the log files copied into the database are presented.  Select the desired Falcon 8 log file.
  4. Select ADD IMAGES AUTOMATICALLY and browse to the directory where the collected photos corresponding to the selected flight are located.

    • 5. Selecting FINISH will start the matching process.  During this time a new window will de displayed.
    •  6. If the detection algorithm is successful, the project will be created and the images will be copied into the workspace.   If unsuccessful, the project can be created anyhow and the user can add images manually to the project.

  • To export the project so that it can be processed, select the EXPORT PROJECT button located in the menu bar. This will open a new window showing several export options.  
  • Export:
    • Agisoft PhotoScan project file
    • Store the data to a preferred location
    • Select check box “copy images to Agisoft PhotoScan project location”
    • Select Absolute (WGS84 Ellipsoid)
