Getting Acquainted

Falcon 8 UAV

  • Falcon 8 UAV
  • One of the main components of the Falcon 8 system is the aircraft. 
    • The airframe of the Falcon 8 UAV is a V-shaped carbon fiber octocopter.  
    • The aircraft contains a few subcomponents that enable the UAV to fly, maintain orientation, and collect data.

Central Unit

  • The Falcon 8 UAS – GeoEXPERT package features the Sony A7R as the camera payload for image capture.  
    • Full frame sensor
    • Low light sensitivity, low noise
    • 36 MP resolution
    • GSD ~ 1 cm @ 70m altitude 
    • 35 mm F2.8 Zeiss lens
    • Field of view: 54º horizontal  |  38º vertical

Mobile Ground Station
